Preparing Future Generations

Building a new generation of advocates and leaders for the hemophilia community

Who will lead future causes and others for the hemophilia community in the years ahead? Young people in the hemophilia community can be active now and begin to give back to the community by becoming actively-engaged.

Here are some tips for getting young adults involved and giving back to the hemophilia community:

  • Start locally. Your National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) chapter needs young people to serve on its committees and advisory boards, and to help create new programs for families. Contact your local chapter administrator and ask how you can become involved.

  • Go national. NHF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI) connects 18–25-year-olds to leadership training and problem-solving skills they can use to enhance local and regional youth programs. Find out more about NYLI from NHF.

  • Become a mentor. Mentoring can be extremely rewarding and it benefits another patient or parent. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to share experiences with someone who could benefit from the lessons you’ve learned. In turn, you’ll likely be challenged to think in new ways.

The need for mentoring continues to grow as more people recognize its value. If you’re interested in helping others who are living with hemophilia, consider becoming a mentor. Learn more by going to:
